Benazir urges people to forge unity

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 4: Former prime minister and PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto has said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto empowered the people to shape their own destiny and the country’s destiny.

She said this in her message on the 74th birth anniversary of the founder chairman of Pakistan People’s Party falling on Saturday.

Ms Bhutto also renewed her determination to fight all the forces of darkness and urged the people to forge unity to confront internal and external threats to Pakistan.

She said the late prime minister gave a unanimous Constitution incorporating the will and aspirations of all parties and federating units to the country. “It is a great pity that on his 74th birthday anniversary the same constitution is held in abeyance which posed a great danger to the integrity of the federation.”

Ms Bhutto said, never before was the need imbibing the spirit of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as great as it was today.

The country was faced with unprecedented internal and external dangers, which could not be met without genuine participation of the people in a democratic polity.

She said the problem faced to the country could only be solved by a democratic government.

The PPP chairperson also urged the party workers to forge unity in their ranks to advance the objectives for which the first democratically-elected prime minister laid down his life.
