Gul Agha warns Herat ex-governor

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Jan 1: The Governor of Kandahar, Gul Agha Sherzai, has warned the former Governor of Heart, Tooran Ismail Khan, to take appropriate measures for ensuring safe travel of traders and other people in his area, a trader told Dawn on Tuesday.

He had expressed his dismay over the loot and killing of many Afghan traders and other travellers between Heart and Kandahar province and sent a delegation to Heart for registering his protest over such incidents to resolve the matter, Haji Raz Mohammad told Dawn by telephone from Chaman.

He said that a delegation of traders of Kandahar and Pakistan running their business in Wesh and other areas of Afghanistan had a meeting with the Kandahar Governor and apprised him of the looting and killing they were facing between Heart and Kandahar, he said.

The delegation informed him that three days ago five traders of Kandahar and Chaman were looted and killed by unknown armed men.

“Five traders were intercepted three days ago near Islam Qila of Heart province and killed by the armed men when they resisted the looting attempt,” Haji Mohammad said.

He said the killer looted their money and other valuables and disappeared from the scene.
