HYDERABAD, Jan 1: The verification and enrolment of voters in Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta and Dadu districts began on Tuesday ahead of the general elections scheduled for October this year.

Around 3,338 enumerators will go from house-to-house to verify and enrol the voters of 21 years and prepare the electoral rolls.

This work will continue till Jan 30 and after its completion the lists of voters will be sent to the Nadra.

If there are mistakes, the Nadra will send back the lists to the election commission office concerned for rectification of errors.

The electoral lists will be displayed at the union council offices, offices of Taluka and Zila councils, schools and at election commission offices of the district.

The lists will be again verified in March. In case of omission of any voter’s name the revising authority can be approached by the citizens.

Each team of enumerators, headed by a supervisor, is required to verify and enrol voters of three union councils. There are a total of 196 supervisors.

An assistant registration officer will also accompany the team for preparing national identity cards.

Citizens are required to produce their national identity cards for enrolment as voters. In case of not having one, the man or woman concerned will be enrolled but in the next phase of verification he or she will have to provide it.

SEA: The Sindh Employees Alliance (SEA) reiterated that all the organizations affiliated with the SEA would boycott the preparation of voters lists for the general elections and resist any ban on the teachers association.

The decision regarding it was taken at a meeting of the supreme council of the SEA at the Government Sachal Sarmast Arts and Commerce College on Monday.

The president of the SEA, Intizar Hussain Chhalgari, was in the chair.

The meeting warned the Sindh Government that any ban on the teachers’ organizations at the instance of Zila Nazims would be resisted.

Announcing the protest programme, the meeting decided to hold general body sessions at Larkana, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, and Hyderabad on Jan 4, 5, 8, and 9 respectively.

The meeting further resolved to stage a protest sit-in at the Sindh governor’s house, Karachi, on Jan 15.

The meeting demanded the removal of the secretary education, withdrawal of the decision to privatize educational institutions, restoration of move-over in the new pay scale, issuance of notification in respect of promotions, and withdrawal of cases against the teachers.

The meeting further demanded that 25 per cent employment quota for the children of teachers should be restored, EDOs (education) of Sukkur and Hyderabad should be dismissed from service and an employment quota should be fixed for the children of lower and clerical staff.
