Rally held against Nazim for labelling girl Kari

SUKKUR, Dec 24: The activists of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) took out a protest rally against Nazim UC Jarwar who is allegedly involved in a murder attempt on a girl, Najma Gabol, and her brother, Sabit Ali Gabol, after declaring her Kari.

The protesters led by JSQM leader Zahid Chachar demanded of SSP Ghotki to arrest the Nazim, Abdul Hameed Gabol, since Najma fears life threat from him due to which she was forced to leave her village.

The protestors told newsmen that Abdul Hameed is tribal chief of the area and he usually gets girls killed on the charge of Karo-kari.

He is habitually involved in declaring girls Karis and often demands money from their parents and labels those girls Karis whose parents refuse to fulfil his demands, they added.

The JSQM activists demanded action against the Nazim according to law and protection for Najma Gabol.

WOMAN KILLED: A woman was killed and four persons were injured in an armed clash between two groups of Khoso and Umrani tribes in Usta Mohammad police station jurisdiction on Sindh and Balochistan border on Monday.

The dispute started over the turn to get water which was converted into bloody clash.

First the Umranis opened fire on the Khosos killing Basheeran Khoso and injuring Mohammad Farooq and Khuda Bukhsh who were shifted to Larkana hospital.

Later Khoso tribesmen attacked the Umranis and injured Liaqat Ali and Juma Khan.

Ghulam Rasool Khoso registered FIR against five persons of Umrani tribe including Fateh Ali, Juma Khan, Allah Dino and Mohammad Ali. No arrest was reported.

Meanwhile, chief engineer irrigation, Sukkur Barrage, Mohammad Musa Memon said here on Monday that the water shortage was due to less water flow in River Indus and announced that from Jan 6, 2002, canals in Sindh would be closed for one month for silt clearance.

Talking to a delegation of growers in his office, he said that water was provided to growers through rotation programme.

SUICIDE: A 22-year-old man Haq Nawaz, resident of village Usman Ruk, committed suicide by lying before a running train near Ghotki on Monday.

Six months ago his brother had also committed suicide by taking some poisonous liquid due to domestic worries.

ANNIVERSARY: The central secretary general of Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Mr Adal Soomro, announced here on Monday that the annual anniversary of prominent poet Shaikh Ayaz would be held at his resting place in Bhitshah on Friday.

On this occasion a musical programme would also be held and popular singers will sing the poetry of Shaikh Ayaz.
