KARACHI: MQM urges cut in power rates

KARACHI, Dec 20: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement members of the dissolved Sindh Assembly have demanded a downward revision of electricity rates and transport fares.

In a statement on Thursday, they said in the past two and a half months there had been a substantial reduction in the prices of petroleum, oil and lubricants, including those of diesel and furnace oil, so electricity rates and transport fares should be brought down accordingly. They said the high power rates and transport fares were unbearable for the middle class and the poor, therefore the government should take necessary action to provide relief to them.

The coordination committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement has demanded provision of funds for two important water supply schemes for Karachi.

In another statement, the committee referred to newspaper reports that the federal government had failed to ensure financing for the bulk water supply scheme and the Kinjhar lake scheme.
