KARACHI, Dec 20: Four men and a woman fell victim to reckless driving in the city on Thursday.
Two labourers died in a road accident in Site area. The police said that Riyasat Ali, aged 18, and Abdul Salam, aged 50, were travelling on a bicycle when they were knocked down by a passenger coach (PE-7610) near Habib Chowrangi in Site. The coach was travelling at a very high speed. Both men were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.
The police claimed to have arrested the coach driver, Masood, on the spot.
A pedestrian, Mian Mohammed, aged 35, was run over by a yellow cab (PE-3752) near the Governor’s House on Aiwan-i-Saddar Road. He died on the spot. The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post-mortem.
The police claimed to have arrested the taxi-driver, Saeed Shah, and impounded the vehicle.
A young man died and two others were injured when a car collided with a passenger coach near the New Sabzimandi in the night.
Police said the body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem. The dead man had not been identified till our going to the press.
An unidentified woman died in a road accident in Korangi. The police said that the woman was knocked down by an unknown vehicle in Korangi No 2. She died on the spot. The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem, the police said.
CARJACKING: Eleven vehicles — four cars and seven motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Thursday, the police said.
The cars were hijacked in Baghdadi, Clifton, Aziz Bhatti, and Gulshan-i- Iqbal.
The motorcycles were stolen in Saddar, Garden, Ferozabad, Bahadurabad, Saudabad, Khwaja Ajmair Nagri, and Orangi Extension.
ROBBERIES: Four robberies were committed in the city on Thursday, the police said.
Abid Hamid lodged an FIR at Frere police station that bandits barged into his house and got away with gold jewellery and cash.
Javed Iqbal lodged a complaint at Aziz Bhatti police station that four bandits barged into his house and looted cash and valuables.
Mohammed Yousuf lodged a complaint at Korangi police station that robbers entered his house and got away with gold jewellery, cash, and a TV set.
Sajawal lodged an FIR at Ibrahim Hyderi police station that bandits looted gold jewellery from his house.
DECOMPOSED BODY: Partially decomposed body of a man was found below Jam Sadiq Ali Bridge on Thursday evening.
Sources at the JPMC said that the dead man had been identified as Gul Shah, aged 37, from the National Identity Card which had been found in his pocket.
The body was at least 2-3 days old and there was no injury mark on it. However, the dead man’s right ear was chopped off, the hospital sources said.
The police said that the dead man was a tanker driver and had arrived in Karachi from Badin on Dec 17. He had been missing since Dec 18.
