GUJRANWALA, Dec 15: Dacoits and robbers shot at and injured the cashier of a bank branch, looted two houses, a factory, several passers-by and also took away a car in six strikes on Saturday.
Muslim Commercial Bank grain market branch cashier Muhammad Ramazan was going to the zonal office to deposit Rs17,000. He was intercepted on GT Road by a youth on a motorcycle (GAE 2317). The robber shot at and injured Ramazan when he resisted.
Ramazan was taken to the civil hospital. Later, he was shifted to Mayo Hospital in Lahore owing to his serious condition.
Three robbers forced their entry into the house of Abdul Hamid in Asghar Colony, Sabzi Mandi. They held up the inmates, collected Rs10,000, 30 tola gold ornaments, other valuables and escaped.
Hamid is a brother of Newspaper Hawkers Association president Muhammad Bashir Kamboh.
Five dacoits sneaked into the house of industrialist Abdul Wahid in Civil Line, Bukhari Road, by scaling the boundary wall.
They locked the inmates in a room, collected Rs100,000, mobile phone, wristwatches, 30 tola gold jewellery and fled.
Earlier, the same dacoits sneaked into the factory of Abdul Wahid in Civil Line. They tied up the watchman with ropes, collected cash, loaded raw material in a pick-up wagon and escaped.
Three robbers intercepted Firdous Ahmad and his wife in Dhulley Model Town.
They snatched Rs100,000 worth cash and gold jewellery from the couple. Later, they
also looted many other passers-by.
Four highwaymen deprived Muhammad Feroze Khan of his car (LEV8175) and cash on Sheikhpura Road. He was going to Baigpur village from Gujranwala.
SENTENCED: An additional district and sessions judge on Saturday sentenced Muzammal Butt of Shaheenabad to death with a fine of Rs50,000.
According to the prosecution, Muzammal had killed Nasim Bibi, wife of Muhammad Shafiq, over a minor issue on April 20, 2000.
