KARACHI, Dec 11: An anti-terrorism court sentenced on Tuesday two car hijackers to 17 years’ rigorous imprisonment each on two counts.
Judge Khan Pervaiz Chang of the ATC-4 sentenced accused Manzoor Alam and Yar Mohammed to 10 years’ RI under section 392 of PPC for depriving Mohammed Saleem of his car. A fine of Rs5,000 each was also imposed on the convicts, who would have to undergo an additional six months’ RI in case of default on the payment of fine.
The victim was on his way on March 20 this year in Korangi Industrial Area where the two car hijackers held him as hostage at gunpoint and snatched his car.
The judge also sentenced the two car hijackers to seven years’ RI for possessing unlicensed pistols.
RELEASE ORDERED: An additional district and sessions judge, East, ordered the release of an accused on personal bond as the investigation officer did not submit the final challan (chargesheet) in the court.
Accused Ghulam Ali, arrested in 1997 by the CIA police, was booked for planning to commit a robbery in Korangi Industrial Area. The judge ordered the senior superintendent of police, East, to register a case against IO Shakil.
BAIL GRANTED: The district and sessions judge, Central, Zafar Ahmed Sheerwani, granted bail to a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
Accused Ashraf Ali, booked in 1995 by the Azizabad police for possessing an unlicensed pistol, was given bail in the sum of Rs150,000.
