Haris and Amir score hat tricks

LAHORE, Dec 7: Sufi Muhammad Haris and Sufi Muhammad Amir scored hat tricks to help Deutsche Bank defeat KPC/Avari 8-5 and qualify for final of the local polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Friday. In fact, Haris scored four goals.

On Sunday, Deutsche Bank will play the final of the tournament against Millat Tractors.

The KPC/Avari side enjoyed two goals advantage on the handicap and put in three goals during play.

Captain Azhar Ali opened scoring for Deutsche Bank by converting a spot penalty near the goalpost. Sufi Muhammad Haris scored his first goal on a field effort. At conclusion of the first chukker, both the teams were tied at 2-2.

Deutsche Bank took the of 5-3 at conclusion of second chukker as it scored three goals as against one put in by KPC/Avari. Haris scored two field goals for Deutsche Bank to complete his hat-trick. Hamid Ali converted a 30 yards penalty-hit for KPC/Avari. Sufi Muhammad Amir scored a field goal for Deutsche Bank by deflecting through the goalposts a long hit of Captain Azhar Ali.

Hamid Ali scored his second goal by benefiting from a 60 yards penalty-hit. It was the KPC/Avari team’s fourth goal. But Deutsche Bank struck thrice to widen the margin to 8-4 before the third chukker ended. Amir scored two back-to-back field goals to complete his hat-trick. Sufi Haris also scored a field goal which was his fourth and Deutsche Bank’s eighth goal.

Kashif Jamal deflected the ball into the goal on a 60 yards penalty-hit taken by Hamid Ali. Thus the KPC/Avari side lost the match 5-8 and provided an opportunity to Deutsche Bank to move into the final.

Three matches of two chukkers, each were also organised on Friday. Garrison Black Berets had an advantage of half-a-goal on the handicap and this margin brought this team victory over Power Soft by 2 1/2 -2.

For Garrison Black Berets, Lt.-Col. Talat Zia scored two back- to-back goals during first chukker. He converted a spot penalty near the goalpost and thereafter, crowned a field effort.

During the second chukker, Umar Sadik also scored two goals but for Power Soft. He scored on a 60 yards penalty-hit and then scored on a field effort. His effort fell a short of requirement as his team lost by half-a-goal’s margin 2-2 1/2.

Garrison Black Berets had an advantage of one goal on handicap but could not score a single goal during play. All seven goals of Mayfair were scored on field efforts, which gave it 7-1 victory. Taimur Mawaz Khan scored five goals, including a hat-trick, to carry Mayfair to a creditable win. Taimur scored first four consecutive of the first chukker and fifth one was put in by Ahmad Ali Tiwana.

During the second chukker, Taimur scored his fifth goal and then Malik Asif Yar Tiwana scored his only goal for Mayfair.

In another match, Power Soft had advantage of half-a-goal on handicap and could not score any goal during play. Mayfair defeated PowerSoft 5-1/2.

During first chukker, Shahid Iqbal scored first of his three goals on a field effort. Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana also scored a field goal before the first chukker ended.

Taimur Mawaz Khan scored a field goal at start of the second chukker. Shahid Iqbal scored two back-to-back goals. He took possession of the ball after Asif had taken a hit on a 60 yards penalty-hit. Before end of the second chukker, Shahid Iqbal scored his third goal with a back-hander.
