KARACHI: Body to check route permit violations

KARACHI, Nov 29: The district regional transport authority (DRTS) has decided that neither any amendment to the old routes of buses, mini-buses and coaches will be allowed nor new permits will be issued unless the owners of vehicles get their vehicles physically examined.

A committee, comprising Transport Executive District Officer, DIG Traffic and Highways, DRTS Secretary and other officials, has been set up.

The senior officials of the committee carried out the examination of buses, mini-buses and coaches at Civic Centre ground on Thursday morning.

A scrutiny of documents of vehicles of various routes revealed that out of 17 vehicles, the owner of only one vehicle was in possession of ownership documents and the rest of vehicles were being plied on an open letter.

The committee turned down all applications for new routes and decided that unless the identified defects were removed, no new route permit would be issued.—APP
