German help sought to set up institute of technology
ISLAMABAD, Nov 20: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Prof Atta-ur-Rahman has said that Western countries need to adopt a more balanced approach towards investing in the basic and higher education sector in Pakistan.
Talking to German Ambassador Christoph Brummer, who called on him here on Monday, the minister said while some investments in the basic and primary education sector had been made by Western countries, more funds should flow toward the education sector, which, he added, stood neglected at the moment.
He called upon the ambassador to help establish a German-Pakistan Institute of Technology, which specialized in various disciplines of engineering sciences, information technology and business development/entrepreneurship.
He proposed that the institute should produce about 100 PhDs, MScs and 1,000 BScs annually, saying that in order to develop such an institute, a professional staff, comprising about a faculty of 500 PhDs in different disciplines of engineering sciences and information technology, would be required.
