KARACHI, Nov 20: Bandits shot a young man to death at Al-Asif Square on Tuesday.

Police said bandits raided a shop owned by Aman, aged 32, at Al-Asif Square and demanded cash from him. When he put up resistance to the bandits, they opened fire on him and escaped. Aman was injured. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

SHOOTOUT: Police shot dead an alleged bandit, in what they claimed an exchange of fire, at the Lasbela traffic intersection.

The dead bandit’s two accomplices escaped, police said.

Police tried to stop three men, riding on a hijacked motorcycle, at the Lasbela traffic intersection. Instead, the bandits opened fire at police and tried to speed away. Police returned the fire. The motorcycle skidded and one of the bandits was hit by bullets and injured. His two accomplices ran away firing into the air, police said.

Police impounded the motorcycle abandoned by the alleged bandits, and took the injured bandit to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His name could not be known immediately. The body had been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification, police said.

Police said the motorcycle had been hijacked in Gulberg police limits on Nov 14, and an FIR 128/2001 had been registered at Gulberg police station. When police spotted the motorcycle, they tried to stop it which led to the death of an alleged bandit.

SUICIDE: A jobless man, father of nine, committed suicide in his Mohammedi Colony house.

Police said Meer Sajid, aged 38, a labourer, had been jobless for the past several months and being the sole bread-winner for his family it had become difficult for him to bear the expenses of his seven sons and two daughters. On Tuesday, Meer Sajid, hailing from the NWFP, took out his pistol in his house at noon and shot himself on the temple. He died an instantaneous death.

Sajid’s nephew Ameerzada, working with the Special Branch of the Sindh police, informed the area police of the suicide. Police sent the body to a hospital for autopsy and later handed it over to the nephew for burial.

DIES OF BURNS: A young man who had suffered burns in his Khokhrapar house three days ago died in a hospital.

Police said Rizwan, aged 19, was admonished by his father for not supporting him in his sweetmeats’ business. Rizwan got upset, sprinkled kerosene on his body and set himself on fire. He was admitted to a hospital where he died.

ROBBERIES: Four robberies were committed in the city on Tuesday, police said.

Arjun Das lodged a complaint at Arambagh police station that two armed men barged into his shop and got away with two computers.

Mohammed Faiz lodged a complaint at Aziz Bhatti police station that unknown men stormed into his house in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and took away a computer and a mobile phone.

Two armed men robbed Shujauddin of cash in North Nazimabad.

Bandits robbed Abdul Khaliq of cash in Gadap.

ACCIDENTS: Two persons fell victim to reckless driving in the city.

A young man died in a road accident in Mehmoodabad. Police said Zeeshan, aged 24, was run over by an unknown vehicle near the terminus of minibuses of route U-4. He was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead.

A 60-year-old unidentified woman who had been hit by an unknown vehicle near Karsaz on Sharea Faisal on late Monday night died in a hospital on Tuesday.

A young man was crushed to death beneath the wheels of a train near the Landhi railway crossing. The body was sent to a hospital for post-mortem where his identity could not be ascertained immediately.

DROWNED: A young man, who was in his twenties, was found dead on Manora beach. Police believed that the man had drowned somewhere off Keamari and his body was found on the Manora beach.

The body was sent to a hospital for autopsy where his identity could not be ascertained.
