Fahd’s directive to varsities

Published November 21, 2001

RIYADH , Nov 20: King Fahd has issued orders to universities to give priority in admission to Saudi students wishing to return from the United States and other countries in the wake of the changed scenario after the Sept 11 attacks.

According to the royal order, these students should be given necessary documents proving that they have been admitted, so that they could continue their education in Saudi universities.

A large number of Saudi and other students from the nearby Gulf states, studying abroad at the time of attacks on Sept 11, have decided not to continue their education in the US and elsewhere. More than 100 Saudis, including a number of students, had been interrogated, by intelligence agencies in the US and other countries after the Sept 11 terror attacks.

The Saudi Council of Ministers has allocated SR600 million per annum for the next five years to encourage Saudi students to pursue higher education overseas.
