Tuffey stakes claim for second Test
ADELAIDE, Nov 18: New Zealand paceman Daryl Tuffey enhanced his claims for a Test berth with a defiant batting performance in the four-day cricket match against South Australia at Adelaide Oval Sunday.
The tailender smacked 56 from 75 balls to steer the New Zealanders to a first innings total of 314, passing South Australia’s 297 for 9 declared.
At stumps on day three, South Australia led by 113 runs at 130 for four in their second innings.
Captain Darren Lehmann and his deputy Greg Blewett built a 101-run partnership after the loss of two early wickets.
Blewett (61) was dismissed late in the final session when he was caught by Chris Martin at mid-on off the bowling of spinner Daniel Vettori.
Vettori struck again with the last ball of the day when he had Lehmann caught and bowled for 51.
