KARACHI: Edhi to set up hospital in Kandahar

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 15: The Edhi Foundation will set up a hospital in Kandahar soon, this was stated by Abdul Sattar Edhi who is leaving for the Taliban stronghold in the next four days.

Speaking to Dawn, Edhi said that his foundation had already setup its unit in a closed hospital in Jalalabad and had been providing treatment to patients for the last one and half months.

He said a team of four doctors assisted by five nurses had so far provided treatment to 5,000 patients, including women and children. The patients include those who had received injuries in the bombing.

The Jalalabad hospital, he said, had been provided a big ambulance and 15 ambulances stationed at Torkham were also used for ferrying patients.

A week ago, he said, he had visited Qandahar where he was assured by the authorities that he would soon get permission to being relief operations.

Answering a question, he said, his work would continue regardless of any change in the political setup of Afghanistan.

He said a foundation delegation was calling on the new governor of Jalalabad to apprise him about the relief operations being carried out by the Pakistan-based social work organisation.
