KARACHI: PADC sticks to decision on strike

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 7: Despite government’s stern warning to take action against those giving a call for a strike on Friday, the Pak-Afghan Defence Council on Wednesday reiterated its resolve to go ahead with the wheel-jam strike to deplore the Afghan policy of the Musharraf regime.

The PADC has constituted a force of youngmen, called “Lashkar-i-Ababeel”, to mobilize people and to frustrate the government plans by staging sit-ins in the areas where attempts will be made, under official patronage, to neutralise the strike call.

The PADC leadership claimed that those who support the Afghan policy of General Pervez Musharraf were unimportant and maintained that the government’s pro-American policy was not in the national interest.

They rejected the current Afghan policy of the government and claimed that the struggle of the Afghan people would soon be successful.

The PADC was of the view that the current American air-strikes, directed against the Taliban regime, were aimed at usurping resources of the region and establishing a new hegemonic colonial order.

They said the government’s decision to put the central leaders under house-arrest and to institute treason cases against them, was vindictive and unconstitutional and an attempt to gag the voice of dissent. They were of the view that such policies of the government would not deter the PADC leaders from carrying on their mission. They also claimed to have support of transporters.

JUI: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam on Wednesday called for an immediate stop to the US and allied forces bombing in Afghanistan which has resulted in human miseries as a large number of innocent people, including women and children, have been killed.

Speaking at a press conference at Karachi Press Club, the acting JUI chief Maulana Abdul Ghani criticised the shifting of the party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to a rest-house and demanded that he and other Ulema, including Maulana Samiul Haq, Maulana Azam Tariq and others, who are under house arrest, be released forthwith.

He said that a meeting of the Difah-i-Afghanistan Council would be held on Nov 10 to discuss its future line of action.
