KARACHI, Nov 7: Despite a lapse of three months since the formation of city government in Karachi, no measures have been taken by the new government to control proliferation of malaria in the city, which has assumed an alarming proportion recently.
The affliction of people is gaining severity as the growth of mosquitoes owing to gross insensitivity of the concerned officials has touched an alarming ratio.
The staff deputed to check and ensure elimination of malaria by sprinkling anti-malaria insecticides, are not discharging their duties properly due to lack of coordination.
According to reports received from different hospitals, the number of patients suffering from malaria has increased manifolds.
To get first hand information, the head of a newly formed department of Vector Control and Fumigation, District Officer, Dr Tasleem Sikandar, was contacted, but all attempts failed to get any meaningful result.
However, DDO of the department, Hammad Siddiqui, claimed that effective measures had been ensured for keeping nullahs clean, besides a programme for sprinkling insecticides.
He pointed out that working of the department was constrained owing to shortage of staff.—PPI
