Fazle, Umer destroy ADBP

Published November 4, 2001

KARACHI, Nov 3: Pacemen Fazle Akbar and Umer Gul shared nine wickets between them as PIA put a stranglehold over ADBP in a Patron’s Trophy clash at the National Stadium Saturday.

Teenager Umer scooped up five for 46 in his debut match while Test reject Fazle captured four wickets for 56 runs as the bankers were bowled out for 135 after having resumed the second day’s play at 34 for four.

PIA, who were skittled out for 182 the other day, ensured that their openers efforts were not wasted when they finished the day at 185 for two with opener Ghulam Ali leading the way with an unbeaten 87.

Ghulam Ali’s 151-ball knock is punctuated with 13 exquisite boundaries. With him was skipper Asif Mujtaba batting on a 90-ball 42 that included nine hits to the fence. The two have added 114 runs for the unfinished third wicket.

PIA now enjoy a 232 runs lead with eight wickets standing. Barring a middle-order collapse, the match appears to be in PIA’s bag.
