Customs fight back after follow on

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, Nov 3: Defending champions Pakistan Customs staged a resilient fight back after being forced to follow-on by KRL in the Patron’s Trophy Grade-I tie at Niaz Stadium here Saturday.

The defending champions ended the second day of the four-day clash on 212 for four in their second innings with Kashif Siddique holding the fort with an unbeaten 78 off 206 deliveries. The left-hander’s 274-minute knock includes 10 fours.

Earlier, Customs added just two runs to their overnight first innings score of 44 for nine before Naeem Akhtar claimed his fourth scalp when he had Waqar Ahmed caught for three.

Yasir Arafat, who like Naeem conceded 23 runs, finished with six wickets. The Rawalpindi all-rounder captured the wickets of Agha Sabir (41 off 103 balls, four fours and one six) and Customs skipper Aamir Bashir (27) in the second innings.

Off-spinner Saeed Ajmal broke the 52-run opening stand between Shadab Kabir and Agha Sabir when he clean bowled the former for 23.

PINDI TIE CURTAILED

Overnight rain restricted play on the second day to just 16 overs between Habib Bank and Sui Gas at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium Saturday, our Reporter from Rawalpindi adds.

Wet outfield meant that play could get under way only after tea in which Habib Bank, who were 341 for one overnight, put on another 65 runs before declaring their first innings at 406 for three.

Sui Gas had barely begun their first innings, having scored six runs without loss, when umpires called off play at 4.30pm because of bad light.

Earlier, Saleem Elahi picked up from where he had left off Friday, and quickly added 21 more runs to complete what was a fine knock of 168. He was eventually dismissed by paceman Wasim Khan who had him caught by Abid. He faced 263 balls and struck 24 fours.
