Mushtaq gives NBP crucial lead over HBL

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 29: Test leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed led from the front to help National Bank secure a crucial first innings lead of 42-run over Habib Bank on the third day of their Patron’s Trophy Grade-I tie at Sheikhupura Stadium Monday.

Mushtaq claimed five for 53 as Habib Bank were dismissed for 223 in reply to National Bank’s 265, according to details available here.

National Bank, who head the standings with 45 points, extended their lead to 57 by reaching 15 for the loss of Imran Nazir’s wicket for four at stumps.

This match, in all probability, is almost certain to end in a draw because of uncertain weather in Sheikhupura. Already a total of 125 overs were lost in the three days of action. Monday saw just 39.1 out of 90 overs bowled.

Habib Bank, having resumed at 118 for two, seemed to cruising along nicely at 197 for four. However, Mushtaq then proceeded to run through the remaining batting to claim five of the last six wickets.

Mushtaq, whose overnight figures were none for 40 in seven overs, captured five for 13 in 10.1 overs Monday.

Saleem Elahi added a single to his Sunday’s score of 63 before his 105-ball innings was ended by left-arm pacer Zahid Saeed.

Hasan Raza, who was eighth out for a 97-ball 39, struck four fours and one six before was caught behind off Mohammad Javed.

All-rounder Asadullah Butt dominated the 62-run fifth wicket stand with Hasan by hitting five boundaries in his 59-ball 40.
