Rallies condemn mass killings

GUJRANWALA, Oct 26: Religious parties took out a big rally on Friday to protest against the US military operation in Afghanistan, killing innocent people in mosques, hospitals and at public places.

The protesters, carrying banners and placards, chanted slogans against the US and its allies.

The rally started from outside the Sheranwala Bagh on the GT Road and after parading through the Hafizabad Road terminated at Chowk Darul Islam in Garjakh.

Speakers condemned the US-led coalition attacks on civilians with cluster and chemical bombs. They criticized the government’s Afghan policy and opposed the installation of any broad-based government in Kabul.

Earlier, imams and khatibs of almost all mosques denounced the killing of bus passengers in Thursday’s bombing.

According to reports reaching here, protest rallies were also taken out in Ghakkhar town, Wazirabad, Kamoke, Alipur Chattha and Qila Dedar Singh.

FAISALABAD: Hundreds of Jamaat-i-Islami women brought out a rally here on Friday.

The demonstration which started from JI’s Chiniot Bazaar office culminated at the Clock Tower Chowk after marching through various city roads.

Carrying banners inscribed with anti-American slogans, the protesters condemned massacre of innocent people in Afghanistan.

JI district president Sardar Zada Zafar Hussain said they were with Afghan brothers and were ready to wage jihad against anti-Muslim powers.

BAHAWALPUR: Starting from Jamia Masjid Al-Sadiq, the protesters reached Chowk Bazaar after marching through various city roads.

Holding placards inscribed with anti-US slogans, the participants of the largely attended rally condemned the US-led allies attacks on civilians in Afghanistan.

A heavy police contingent also accompanied the rally.

TOBA TEK SINGH: A rally, led by Sipah-i-Sahaba Punjab president Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianvi and Ahle Hadith leader Maulana Abdul Raheem Zahid, marched through various bazaars in Kamalia.

The demonstrators raised slogans against presidents Bush and Pervez Musharraf.

OKARA: The Pak-Afghan Defence Council brought out a protest rally after Friday prayers from Chowk Jamia Muhammadia.

Led by Jamaat-i-Islami’s Dr Liaquat Ali Kausar, hundreds of marchers protested against the massive bombing unleashed over Afghanistan.
