SPI slightly up

KARACHI, Oct 25: The Sensitive Price Indicator for income group up to Rs3,000 has registered a slight increase during the week ended Oct 18 over the previous week.

The SPI for the week under review stood at 104.38 as compared to 104.21 the previous week, showing a slight increase of 0.16 per cent, according to figures released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics.

The weekly SPI with revised base 2000-2001=100 for the group comprising 51 essential items including 4 items of utilities has been computed.

Average prices of 12 items registered a decrease and 10 items posted an increase while the prices of 29 items remained unchanged for the week.

The SPI with base 1990-91 for the lowest income group up to Rs1,500 (47 essential items) for the week recorded an increase of 0.16 per cent over previous week, whereas change over corresponding week of the last year is 2.16 per cent.

The average prices of 12 items i.e., kerosene, petrol, bananas, tomatoes, sugar, moong pulse, onions, gur, vegetable ghee (loose), coarse latha, mash pulse and eggs registered a decrease during the week.

However, the average prices of the 10 items including red chillies (powdered), potatoes, wheat, garlic, wheat, garlic, wheat flour, cooked dal (plate), chicken farm, gram pulse, masoor pulse and mustard oil increased.—APP
