Hewitt pulls out

STOCKHOLM, Oct 23: US Open champion Lleyton Hewitt pulled out of the $800,000 Stockholm Open on Tuesday due to a back injury, tournament organisers said.

Tournament director Per Hjertqvist told a news conference that the world number two, who was top seed in Stockholm, had been forced to withdraw due to the injury.

Lucky loser Jan Vacek of the Czech Republic earned the vacant place in the 32-player men’s singles main draw.

Earlier Hewitt’s fellow Australian Patrick Rafter pulled out of the Stockholm Open with a shoulder injury.—Reuters
