KARACHI, Oct 20: The reports on the development of infrastructure in Zulfiqarabad area for the parking of oil tankers and the security measures at Keamari oil terminal came under review at a meeting here on Saturday.

Sindh chief secretary Mohammad Javed Ashraf Hussain presided over the meeting.

The infrastructure committee presented its proposals/recommendations, which envisaged a complete layout plan for establishing an alternative oil tanker terminal in Zulfiqarabad.

The new facility would cater to about 1200 oil tankers at any given time. It would also offer related facilities, like shops, rest areas for truckers, mosque and basic health facilities, in addition to power and water arrangements.

The total financial outlay of the project was estimated to be Rs105.5 million. It was decided that the city government, Karachi, oil marketing companies, Malir Development Authority, KWSB and the KESC would share the cost jointly.

The chief secretary approved the plan and the cost sharing formula.

According to the formula, oil marketing companies, MDA, city government, KWSB, and the KESC would contribute Rs33.5 million, 32 million, 8 million, 12 million and 20 million respectively. It was also decided that the project of Zulfiqarabad oil tanker terminal shall be run by the city government.

The security committee presented its report containing a security plan for the terminal.

The report contained immediate, mid-term and long-term measures and recommended that outer and inner security perimeters needed to be guarded by 12 pickets, manned by the Rangers personnel.
