KARACHI: Suspect killed in shootout

KARACHI, Oct 12: An Afghan national was shot at and wounded when two groups clashed with each other in one of the Afghan settlements along the Superhighway near Sohrab Goth, the police said.

A senior police official said the cause of the dispute could not be ascertained immediately but the two groups, the Persian- speaking and Pushto-speaking, attacked each other with sticks and clubs and they used freely kicks and blows. Later, they became more violent and started using semi-automatic weapons.

The police reached the spot behind Indus Plaza in Gulzar-i- Hijri police limits and intervened to disperse the fighting elements and diffuse the tension in the area.

He said the police controlled the situation but it was still tense. However, the disturbance in the area did not affect the flow of vehicular traffic on Superhighway, he added.

The wounded man was taken to the hospital where he was identified as Lal Mohammad 25.

SUSPECT KILLED: Body of an alleged bandit injured in a shootout with police near water pump chowrangi, was found near Jamaat Khana in F.B Area on Friday morning.

Police said two bandits hijacked a motorcycle in F.B Area. The bike developed some fault near the Water Pump traffic intersection. Police claimed that seeing a police mobile, the bandits opened fire at them. The police returned the fire injuring a bandit. However, both the suspects escaped.

Police said that body was identified as Fasial, 25.

V ACCIDENT: An aged man died in a road traffic accident in Cantt Station area on Friday.

Police said that Ranja, 50, who was travelling in minibus X- 3, fell from the bus and sustained head injuries.

The victim was rushed to the JPMC, where he was pronounced dead.

CARJACKINGS: At least five vehicles — one car and four motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in different parts of the city on Friday, police said. A car (D-5743) was stolen in Tipu Sultan.

The motorcycles KAE-3160, KAL-3382, DU-5806 and GAH-1302 were taken away in Kharadar, Arambagh, Liaquatabad and Orangi Extension.
