Three corps get new commanders

ISLAMABAD, Oct 10: The reshuffle in Pakistan Army, started with the extension in the term of Chief of Army Staff and filling of key positions, continued on the third consecutive day as corps commanders of some important corps were replaced on Wednesday.

The corps where changes were made on Wednesday included Rawalpindi, Lahore and Gujranwala. The corps commanders of Peshawar and Quetta had been replaced on Tuesday.

Besides changing commanders of different corps, reshuffling at some important posts including Director General Rangers and Adjutant General Pakistan Army and Vice Chief of General Staff has also been carried out.

According to an ISPR press release, Lt-Gen Jamshaid Gulzar, Corps Commander Rawalpindi has been appointed Adjutant General Pakistan Army, while Maj-Gen Faiz Jilani has been promoted to the rank of Lt-Gen and appointed Corps Commander Gujranwala.

Maj-Gen Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, Director General Strategic Planning and Development, has been promoted to the rank of Lt-Gen in his present appointment, whereas Maj-Gen Zarrar Azim, Director General Pakistan Rangers, Punjab, has been promoted to the rank of Lt-Gen and appointed as Corps Commander, Lahore.

Maj-Gen Syed Arif Hasan, Vice Chief of General Staff has been promoted to Lt-Gen and appointed as corps commander, Rawalpindi, while Maj-Gen Shahid Aziz, General Officer Commanding, Murree, has been promoted to Lt-Gen and appointed as Chief of General Staff, Pakistan Army.

Earlier on Tuesday, Lt-Gen Abdul Qadir Baloch, who had been commanding Gujranwala corps, was transferred as Corps Commander, Quetta and Lt-Gen Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai, who had been serving as Adjutant General Pakistan Army, was appointed as Corps Commander, Peshawar. Lt-Gen Ahsan was appointed as Director General, ISI, on the retirement of Gen Mehmud.
