ISLAMABAD, Oct 7: The Pakistan Muslim League on Sunday condemned the military government for putting Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Maulana Sami-ul-Haq under house arrest for holding peaceful demonstration and demanded their immediate release.
In a statement released by the central secretariat of Pakistan Muslim League, secretary information Mushahidullah Khan said that the constitution allows peaceful political and religious meetings to the citizens and both the religious leaders had exercised their right in line with the spirit of the Constitution.
But he added, the rulers, rather than adopting a bold stance on the current situation in accordance with the sentiments of the public, were disrespecting the political and civil rights of the people and hiding their face from the public.
“If the present rulers are sure of the veracity of their stand, what bars them from coming out into the public like the popular political and the religious leaders without the security cordon and address the public so that they come to know about the public support they are making claims of,” he said.
