KARACHI, Oct 6: Residents of Muslimabad and Catholic Colony have been facing acute water shortage for the last one month.

Complaining about the persisting water shortage in their localities, the residents accused the concerned officials of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board of not taking any interest in resolving their lingering water issue despite a number of complaints lodged with them on several occasions.

“It is beyond comprehension that how the nearby Muslimabad hydrants continue to get plenty of water whereas our localities’ pipelines either remain dry for days together or supply insufficient water,” remarked an elderly person of the affected locality.

He also complained that on the one hand, tankers drawing water from the Muslimabad hydrant often remain parked in front of their houses at the cost of their privacy and, on the other, a number of internal streets and adjacent roads of Muslimabad and Catholic Colony have sustained heavy damage due to their frequent movement.

A visit to both the localities showed that in most of the cases, the carpeting of roads and streets had completely eroded away and as result gravel and potholes had surfaced at many places, damaging vehicles and inflicting violent jerks to motorists.

The residents of both the localities demanded of the City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, to immediately order restoration of adequate water supply to their areas as well as the construction and repair work of the dilapidated roads and streets. Tanker drivers must also be refrained from parking their vehicles along the boundary walls of their houses and in front of their gates, they added.
