PESHAWAR, July 31 The city district government formally launched the Rescue -122 here on Friday.
A function was organised on the premises of the disaster management centre located on the Grand Trunk Road, Hashtnagi area, which was largely attended by volunteers, employees of the centre, government officials, director-general Rescue-1122 Lahore and other guests. District Nazim Umer Khan while speaking on the occasion said that it was a long standing demand of the people of Peshawar which was fulfilled by the government. He said about 60 employees of the centre had recently completed their training in Lahore and they had been assigned responsibilities.
Mr Khan expressed the hope that the service would help rescue lives and properties of people in the hour of emergency. He said population was spreading fast and the firefighting system needed to be changed.
