Plea against Nawaz

LAHORE, March 25: The provincial election commission has been asked to restrain former prime minister Nawaz Sharif from contesting the election if he files nomination papers for the upcoming general election.

Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree has filed an application to the provincial election commissioner, pleading that Sharif is not an honest person. He alleges that Sharif is involved in money laundering and also raised questions about his academic degrees. He says at least $2 billion have been illegally transferred abroad by Sharif.

The lawyer pleads that Sharif cannot be even a candidate for any election and that a petition against him is pending in the Lahore High Court since 1991. — Staff Reporter
