Dr Nafis Sadik calls on Jamali

ISLAMABAD, Jan 9: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali said on Thursday that his government attached high priority to providing quality health care to the people.

He was talking to Dr Nafis Sadik, the special envoy to the UN secretary-general on HIV/AIDS and Population in South Asia, who called on him at the PM House. She was accompanied by Dr Olvier, country representative for the UNFPA.

Minister for Health Mohammad Nasir Khan and Secretary Health Dr Ijaz Rahim were also present.

Mr Jamali reiterated his government’s firm commitment to control the incidence of HIV in the country. He said: “We intend to produce results as far as the control of HIV is concerned,” adding that “the time is of great essence, in this connection.”

Dr Nafis Sadik lauded the commitment shown by the government and discussed the HIV/AIDS situation.

Meanwhile, a three-member PML-Q delegation, headed by the party’s president, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, called on Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali at the Prime Minister’s House on Thursday and exchanged views with him on the current political situation.

The team, included PML-Q secretary-general Saleem Saifullah Khan and senior vice-president Lt-Gen Majeed Malik (retired).

Matters pertaining to the forthcoming by-elections for the national and provincial assemblies and other party affairs came under discussion.

Talking to another delegation from Balochistan who called on him in the evening, Prime Minister Jamali said service to the people was the motto of his government and promoting cherished Islamic values, undertaking of all round and prompt national development, defence, solidarity and sovereignty of the motherland would be the government’s policies.

Those who called on the prime minister included Haji Abdul Qadeer Khan Yasinzai, former federal minister Mir Baz Khan Khetran, Allah Baksh, Raees Mahrullah and Nawaz Sabdrani.
