A couple of weeks back, legendary Pakistani singer Abida Parveen was given the lifetime achievement award at the Kaladharmi Begum Akhtar Academy of Ghazal in India. It is clearly a glowing tribute not just to the great vocalist’s all round ability but also the way she has sung ghazals over the years.
In that regard, a couple of ghazals (Shaad Azimabadi’s Dhoonde ge agar mulkon mulkon and Hakim Nasir’s Jab se tu ne mujhe deewana) instantly come to mind. The way Abidaji has sung those indicate her uncanny understanding of the art form. Well done Abida ji. Stay blessed!
