KARACHI, Oct 20: The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) on Thursday declared results of the Higher Secondary School Certificate annual examinations’ five different faculties – Commerce (private), Humanities (both regular and private), Humanities (special candidates) and Medical Technology.
The overall pass percentage was 43.36. In the Humanities exams it stood at 43.36pc. It was 40.15pc in the Commerce (private) exams, 47.84pc in the Humanities (private) exams, 97.06pc in the Humanities (Special candidates) exams and 33.33pc in the HSC (Medical Technology) exams.
Humanities (regular)
Students belonging to the BAMM PECHS Govt College for Women bagged all the top three positions in the Humanities examinations.
Amna Urooj (Roll No 736504), daughter of Muhammad Haroon Siddiq, stood first in the exam by securing 913 (83 per cent) out of 1,100 marks, Anam Fatima (736526), d/o Nasir Mehdi, clinched second position by obtaining 878 (79.81pc) marks while Sana Sohail Ahmed Pai (736505), d/o Sohail Aslam Ahmed Pai, got the third position with 877 (79.72pc) marks.
In all, 10,201 candidates (1,127 boys and 9,074 girls) appeared in the exam. Of them, 4,423 candidates (403 boys and 4,020 girls) were declared passed in different grades.
Among the successful candidates, three girls got grade A-1, 146 (two boys and 144 girls) secured grade A, 859 (54 boys and 805 girls) obtained grade B, 1,819 (127 boys and 1,692 girls) got grade C, 1,480 (197 boys and 1,283 girls) got grade D and 116 candidates (23 boys and 93 girls) were placed in grade E.
Commerce (private)
Mairman Siddiqui (Roll No 446258), daughter of Saleheen Siddiqui, clinched the first position in the HSC Commerce (private) annual examinations by obtaining 856 (77.81pc) out of 1,100 marks, Amna (434734), d/o Muhammad Asif, got second position by securing 850 (77.27pc) marks and Sidra-tul-Muntaha (434533), d/o Musharraf Jamal, stood third with 831 (75.54pc) marks.
Of the total 12,277 candidates (9,583 boys and 2,694 girls) who appeared in the exam, only one (female) candidate got grade A-1, 81 candidates (57 boys and 24 girls) secured grade A, 520 (384 boys and 136 girls) obtained grade B, 1,962 (1,562 boys and 400 girls) got grade C, 2,214 (1805 boys and 409 girls) got grade D and 151 candidates (122 boys and 29 girls) were placed in grade E.
Humanities (private)
Madiha (Roll No 861965), d/o Abdul Aziz, bagged the first position in the HSC Humanities (private) annual examination by securing 888 (80.72) out of 1,100 marks, Shahjahan Saleem (831015), son of Muhammad Saleem, got the second position with 867 (78pc) marks and Asma , d/o Muhammad Hussain, got the third position with 845 (76.81pc) marks.
In all, 13,335 candidates (6,221 boys and 7,114 girls) took the exam and of them only one (girl) got grade A-1, 99 (34 boys and 65 girls) secured grade A, 744 candidates (204 boys and 540 girls) got grade B, 2,922 (1,435 boys and 1,487 girls) secured grade C, 2,400 (1,318 boys and 1,082 girls) obtained D grade and 213 candidates (127 boys and 86 girls) secured grade E.
Humanities (special candidates)
Urooj Naz (Roll No 761506), d/o Sarfaraz, of Ida Rieu School and College for Deaf, clinched the first position in the examinations by obtaining 987 (89.73 per cent) out of 1,100 marks.
Parveen Zehra (761539), d/o Abid Ali, belonging to Dewa Higher Secondary School bagged the second position by securing 973 (88.45pc) marks and Naeemullah (761005) of Ida Rieu School & College for Deaf stood third with 972 (88.36pc) marks.
In all, 68 candidates (35 boys and 33 girls) appeared in the exam and of them 26 (seven boys and 19 girls) secured grade A-1, 24 (11 boys and 13 girls) got grade A, and 16 candidates (15 boys and a girl) secured grade B.
Medical Technolgy
The BIEK also announced the results of the HSC (Medical Technology) annual examinations-2011 in which 15 candidates appeared and only five of them were declared successful. The overall pass percentage stood at 33.33.
None of the candidates got A-1 and A grades while among the five successful candidates, two secured grade B and three got grade C.
Board announcement
The results were announced at a ceremony held in honour of the position-holders of the examinations in the BIEK auditorium.
BIEK chairman Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai on this occasion announced that the papers of both regular candidates and failures would be the same and conducted the same day from the annual examinations-2012.
Besides, the BIEK has also decided to conduct Urdu (Compulsory) and Urdu (Salees) papers on separate days to prevent confusion, he added.
Referring to the measures taken by the BIEK for bringing about transparency in the examination system, he said the board had already computerised its enrolment department while the marks-sheets would carry photographs of the candidates from the next annual examinations.
Speaking on the occasion, BIEK controller of examinations Mohammad Imran Chishti said the board had this year declared the results of Humanities annual examinations 21 days ahead of the last year’s results of the same group, the results of Special candidates annual exams 21 days before the previous year’s results of the same group, Commerce (private) examination’s results five days earlier than the last year’s while that of Medical Technology three-and-a-half months ahead of the last results of the same group.
