LAHORE, Oct 5: The Lahore High Court Bar Association president has written a letter to Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry, conveying bar’s concern about some of the judges’ performance and their ‘lack of decision-making’ power.

“It has been observed that in the Lahore High Court, the induction of judges somehow has not been able to achieve the objectives set out in the National Judicial Policy and that I received many complaints in respect of non-maintenance of decorum of courts,” said the letter written by LHCBA President Asghar Ali Gill.

Mr Gill said in the letter that it was observed that on account of lack of experience and exposure to the process of dispensing justice, the disposal of cases had not been satisfactory.

He said cases were adjourned on account of ‘lack of confidence and ability of decision making’ and it was resulting in frustration among the litigants and lawyers community.

He further said some of the judges lacked awareness about high standard of their judicial office and their conduct had been found short of dignity attached to the office.

He asked the chief justice that this practice should be arrested before it could damage prestige of the institution and cause lack of confidence in judicial institution.

The bar president said some of the judges had extremely divergent approach in decision making on established principles of criminal justice system which led to confusion and rumour mongering which was neither desirable nor in the interest of the institution.

“Very ordinary matters are not decided for number of days and the public had to wait for weeks even to get the copies of bail orders, stay orders and other orders/judgments which are orally announced in the courts,” the letter added.

Mr Gill has sought kind indulgence of the chief justice for improving efficiency and speedy disposal of cases ‘so that goals set out in judicial policy can be achieved’.
