Pride of Performance for five boxers

ISLAMABAD, Nov 9: Five boxers, who won a gold medal and four silver medals at 14th Asian Games last month, have been recommended for Presidential Pride of Performance awards.

The Chief Executive Secretariat has formally approved the summary for decorating the boxers who brought laurels to the country.

“The decision to decorate them with Presidential Pride of Performance medals has been finalised”, confirmed the Director General of Pakistan Sports Board, Brig. Saulat Abbas.

The head of state will pin Presidential Pride of Performance awards on gold-medallist Mehrullah and silver medallist Noman Karim, Asghar Ali Shah, Ahmed Ali Khan and Shaukat Ali at the investiture ceremony next year.

Mehrullah won Pakistan its only gold medal at last month’s Asian Games while it were also the boxers who bagged four silver medals for the country which was represented by a 270-odd contingent in 13 disciplines in the Busan event.

PSB has informed the President of Pakistan Amateur Boxing Federation, Prof. Anwar Chaudhary, that President Gen. Pervez Musharraf has approved the award of Presidential Pride of Performance to the boxers who won medals at the Asian Games in Busan.—APP
