KARACHI, Jan 15: The exciting Round 1 of Xtreme Autocross Championship 2011 was contested in front of a packed crowd recently at Clifton which also included a ladies category race which was won in thrilling fashion by Urooj Mumtaz Khan.

Seven categories were contested during round one including three stock categories and four prepared categories, all based on the international autocross racing formats.

Driving in extremely difficult conditions on a slippery track, brilliant race driver Shamyl Khuhro displayed his fantastic skills in a stylish Mazda RX7 to post the fastest time of the day.

In other categories, the A-Stock category was won by Waqas Rathor, driving Nissan 350zx. The B-Stock category saw the highest number of participants competing and was finally won by Mansoor Halim who excelled on the track in his Honda Civic.

The C-Stock category saw some fine driving from talented new contestant Jam Kamal who won the race in style to make it two in a row after his superb victory in the recent Jhal Magsi Desert Challenge.

The ever-reliable Ghazanfar Agha, who has made the D-prepared category as his own with consecutive victories, once again kept the rivals at bay to win the race.

The C-Prepared category was the most exciting race of the night which saw wheel-wizard Mukesh Chawla and talented Imam Ali Shah competing neck and neck throughout the contest. However, Imam Ali Shah came out the winner with some great under-pressure driving on a slippery track.

The B-Prepared category race was won by Shamyl Khuhro again as his competitors were outclassed by a long margin.

The A-Prepared category race was Mercedes versus BMW clash, both the vehicles appearing in top condition for the exciting event. In the end it was Zaheer Hussain Shah driving his Mercedes C200 who outsmarted Kashif Sattar in his BMW as crowds broke into a frenzy.

The second round of this year’s Xtreme Autocross Championship 2011 is scheduled for Feb 26.
