KARACHI, Dec 12: A man was killed by suspected robbers when he put up resistance during a cellphone snatching attempt within the remit of the Gulbahar police station on Sunday.

A duty officer of the Gulbahar police station said the incident took place under the Lasbella bridge, where Ghulam Mujtaba, son of Rasool Bukhsh, was shot at by the bandits while trying to snatch his cellphone. Police said the suspects fled following the incident.

The wounded man was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died during treatment.

A duty officer of the New Karachi Industrial Area said the incident occurred in the minibus of route N, which was coming from Lashi Goth.

Quoting the conductor of the minibus, the duty officer said the suspect was sitting in the rear part of the bus wearing a shawl. When the bus reached near Saba cinema, the suspect walked up to Akbar Saeed, who was sitting in the front portion of the vehicle, pumped two bullets into him, got off the vehicle and escaped.
