KARACHI, Dec 12: A man was killed by suspected robbers when he put up resistance during a cellphone snatching attempt within the remit of the Gulbahar police station on Sunday.

A duty officer of the Gulbahar police station said the incident took place under the Lasbella bridge, where Ghulam Mujtaba, son of Rasool Bukhsh, was shot at by the bandits while trying to snatch his cellphone. Police said the suspects fled following the incident.

The wounded man was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died during treatment.

Police said the victim lived in a hut under the bridge, where the incident occurred.

The victim's nephew, Nazeer Husain, lodged an FIR (563/2010) against the unknown suspects at the Gulbahar police station.

Man killed in bus A man was killed by an unknown assailant in a minibus in New Karachi on Sunday morning.

A duty officer of the New Karachi Industrial Area said the incident occurred in the minibus of route N, which was coming from Lashi Goth.

Quoting the conductor of the minibus, the duty officer said the suspect was sitting in the rear part of the bus wearing a shawl. When the bus reached near Saba cinema, the suspect walked up to Akbar Saeed, who was sitting in the front portion of the vehicle, pumped two bullets into him, got off the vehicle and escaped.

Police described the incident as a result of personal enmity as the suspect did not take away any valuable from the victim's possession.

'Gangster' killed A man was killed and his elder brother wounded in an apparent infighting in a Lyari gang.

Police said the incident occurred somewhere in Edhu Lane, within the remit of the Baghdadi police station.

“We received information from the hospital at 6.10pm that two men — Jamshed and Yaseen — with gunshot wounds were brought to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where Jamshed later died,” Baghdadi police station SHO Mohammad Ali said.

Shortly afterwards, around 25 to 30 men came to the CHK and took away the body and the wounded with them, disallowing any legal formality, the SHO quoting hospital sources said.

Police said Jamshed had suffered a fatal bullet wound and died while his elder brother, Yaseen, was wounded.

Both were stated to be members of the Rehman group.

It was an incident of fighting within the Rehman group, the Baghdadi SHO said.
