GUJRANWALA, Sept 13: A tough fight is expected between the PML-N and the PPP in NA-95 which comprises on rural areas.
The PML-N fielded former provincial education minister Barrister Usman Ibrahim while the PPP allotted ticket to Chaudhry Imranullah. Both the men are lawyers by profession and enjoying the support of their clans.
The PML-QA awarded ticket to Haji Imranullah Chaudhry who is the son of PPP former federal minister Haji Amanullah and brother of city tehsil Naib Nazim Ehsanullah.
The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal nominated Maulana Ayub Safdar.
The PML-N candidate belongs to Ansari while the PPP and the PML-QA to Arain caste. PPP’s Imranullah is a close relative of city PPP president Khalid Humayun while PML-QA aspirant Imranullah is the son of noted educationist Chaudhry Inayatullah of Khiali. They will divide the Arain caste votes which will benefit the PML-N aspirant. PML-N’s Barrister Usman Ibrahim is a senior parliamentarian who has been elected MPA five times.
CRITICIZED: The activists of the PML-N and PPP have flayed rejection of nomination papers of their leaders and alleged the government was involved in pre-polls rigging.
At a meeting on Friday, ex-federal minister Ghulam Dastagir Khan and PPP district President Chaudhry Abdullah Virk said the government was supporting the PML-QA after eliminating the PML-N and PPP leaders through draconian law. Meanwhile, Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith chief Prof Sajid Mir said his party would support the PML-N.
COURT: A judicial court on Friday took serious notice of production of some accused for physical remand without handcuffs.
Reports said Aroop police ex-SHO Inspector Khurram Butt and other officials were involved in manhandling union council Nazim Farooq Ahmad. The former policeman was booked when the Lahore crime branch declared him guilty. He got an interim bail from an anti-corruption court which rejected his plea. The court has directed the police to produce the accused on Saturday (today) in handcuffs.
DEFAULTERS FREED: Eight motorcyclists attacked a revenue recovery team and freed two defaulters from their custody in Mangoki village, Naushera Virkan, on Friday.
The recovery team headed by naib tehsildar Hazoor Bakhsh went to the village to recover Rs75,893 from lumberdar Muhammad Arif and Rs33,650 from landlord Nisar Ahmad.
They caught both the defaulters from their dera near the village and boarded them on an official jeep. The motorcyclists chased them and attacked them with fists and kicks and freed both the defaulters from their custody.
Naushera Virkan police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating. Police raided their residences and arrested them.
