LAHORE, April 1: The Lahore Township Industries Association on Thursday withdrew its strike notice on Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi's intervention.

The factories were to be closed down from Friday (today) in protest against lack of protection from dacoits.

In a message conveyed to industrialists by one of his advisors who attended a meeting of the association, the chief minister said that the government would do everything in its power to provide protection to industrialists for keeping the industry running.

The industrialists were assured that the chief minister would soon sanction establishment of a police post in the Lahore Township industrial area. The Model Town SP, who accompanied the advisor, assured the industrialists that he would ensure regular police patrols in the industrial area.

A six-member committee, comprising three representatives of industrialists and the Model Town SP, DSP and SHO, was constituted to review the law and order situation every fortnight.

It was also decided to computerize the particulars of all industrial workers in the area and remove televisions from the restaurants expected to be visited by criminals.
