Police defuse 12 bombs found near army base

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Feb 9: Police on Friday defused 12 bombs containing about 120 kilograms of explosives near a military base here on Friday.

District Police Officer Abdur Rashid Khan told journalists that the bombs had been found in a field opposite the Artillery Brigade Headquarters in the Qala Iqbal Garh area, packed in a sack.

The area was cordoned off and personnel of the bomb disposal squad defused the devices.

He said similar bombs containing explosives and pieces of projectiles had been used in suicide attacks.

The District Police Officer said that a First Information Report had been registered against unidentified men and further investigations were under way.

Meanwhile, a bomb exploded outside a shop in the main Tank city on Friday morning, partially damaging the shopping outlet but caused no casualties, our correspondent adds.

Police said that the bomb went off in the Gandapur locality of the city.
