Fresh date for Briton’s execution sought

ISLAMABAD, Oct 2: The Adiala Jail administration on Monday requested the court of law to fix the execution date of British national Mirza Tahir Hussain who has been on the death row for killing a taxi driver.

Superintendent of the jail Rana Abdul Rauf in a letter to the district and sessions judge concerned said the third stay in execution of Mr Hussain expired on October 1.

The black warrant of the convict has already been issued; however, the execution date would have to be finalised afresh, he said.

The date will be fixed within a week by the court. However, it will be after Ramazan as executions are not carried out in the holy month.

The jail official said after finalisation of a date, they would inform the family members of the convict and the victim.
