13 sheep, goats killed by train

BAHAWALPUR: As many as 13 sheep and goats worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were killed after being hit by a train near Machiwal railway station on the Vehari-Burewala section on Wednesday.

Reports said an employee of livestock owner Rana Bhai was grazing a herd of sheep and goats near the 545-Wala railway crossing at Machiwal. As the Up Farid Express was travelling from Vehari to Burewala, the train driver sounded the horn while approaching the crossing.

Frightened by the horn, several animals strayed onto the railway track and were crushed under the train, killing 13 sheep and goats on the spot.

ELECTROCUTED: Three women lost their lives in separate incidents in Bahawalpur and Vehari districts on Wednesday.

Two women were electrocuted in Ahmedpur East and Hasilpur tehsils of Bahawalpur district.

Mumtaz Mai (65) was electrocuted while ironing clothes at her house at Mauza Giderhatti near the grid station area of Mubarikpur, about 35km from Bahawalpur city.

According to Rescue 1122, emergency responders reached the scene after receiving a call, confirmed her death and handed over the body to her family.

In the second incident in Hasilpur, Sajida (25) was electrocuted while attempting to switch on a pedestal fan.

Rescue 1122 shifted her body to the THQ Hospital, Hasilpur.

In a separate incident in Vehari district, a woman identified as Nasim Bibi was killed after a speeding mini-truck hit the motorcycle she was travelling on with her husband near Sabzi Mandi on Multan Road in Sahooka.

Her husband, Sharif, sustained serious injuries in the accident. The truck driver fled the scene.

Rescue 1122 shifted Nasim Bibi’s body and the injured man to the THQ Hospital.
