Teachers in KP to petition against outsourcing of schools

PESHAWAR: The All Primary Teachers’ Association (APTA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, has decided to move the Peshawar High Court against the provincial government’s school outsourcing policy.

The association also warned of launching a protest campaign if the decision to outsource a government primary school in Regi Model Town, Peshawar, was not withdrawn.

Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, APTA provincial president Azizullah Khan said the government’s outsourcing policy allowed only schools with fewer than 40 enrolled students or those with zero enrolment to be outsourced.

He, however, alleged that schools with enrolments ranging from 150 to 280 students were also being outsourced in violation of the government’s own criteria.

Citing a government primary school in Regi Model Town as an example, he said the institution had around 260 students enrolled, and questioned the rationale behind its proposed outsourcing.

“We fail to understand under whose instructions such a well-functioning school is being outsourced,” he said, adding that the association would resist the move and mobilise the local community against it.

Mr Khan urged the provincial minister for education and the education secretary to intervene immediately and take action against officials allegedly responsible for violating the outsourcing policy.
