LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) has suspended two senior officers from service over alleged violations of rules and regulations and administrative misconduct.
According to a spokesperson, the action was taken under the company’s “zero-tolerance” policy on corruption, irregularities, misconduct and discipline.
The officers whose services have been placed under suspension include Lecso’ Central Circle Superintending Engineer (Operations) / SE Engineer Jamshed Zaman and Okara Division Deputy Manager (Operations) / Executive Engineer Shahzaib Bhutto.
During the suspension period, both officers have been asked to report to Lesco’s operations directorate in accordance with applicable rules.
The spokesperson said some appointments were also made to ensure continuity in administrative affairs.
S&I Manager Rao Kamran Shaukat has been assigned the additional charge of central circle manager (operations), while Okara Circle Deputy Manager (Technical) Irfan Ali Masood has been given the additional charge of Okara Division deputy manager (operations) with immediate effect until further orders.
“The company would not compromise on transparency, discipline or merit,” said Lesco CEO Ramzan Butt in a statement.
“The effective administrative measures would continue to ensure uninterrupted public service delivery and improved organisational performance,” he added.
SEALED: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has sealed three premises, including a hotel, during operations against tax defaulters in different parts of the province, including Lahore.
According to a PRA spokesperson, the action was taken after tax evasion was established and repeated violations of tax laws were detected. Additionally, dozens of food outlets and aesthetic clinics were issued notices for failing to use point of sale (PoS) machines. The spokesperson stated that failure to deposit taxes collected from the public into the government treasury in a timely manner constitutes a violation of the law.
He further emphasised that not using PoS machines contributed to tax fraud by concealing sales records. To ensure transparency in tax collection through digital monitoring, the implementation and use of PoS machines was mandatory across the province.
The public should obtain only PRA-verified receipts bearing the official QR code after making payments to ensure that their transactions had been properly recorded and verified, the spokesperson added.
Meanwhile, various teams of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Friday sealed as many as 71 properties on account of non-payment of commercialisation fee and penalties, according to a spokesperson.
