One killed, 13 injured in road accidents

OKARA: One person was killed and 13 others suffered injuries in four separate road incidents across the district.

On the Okara-Faisalabad Road near the Satgrah Mor, two motorcycles coming from opposite directions collided head-on killing Amir (17), a resident of village 33/2R, on the spot. The other bike rider, identified as Nazir, suffered serious injuries.

In another incident on the village 45/2L Road, two motorcycles collided with each other leaving Tayyab, Munir and Habib injured.

In the third incident near the railway level crossing in village 3/4L on the GT Road, a car was rear-ended by a bus. Sardaran Bibi along with her sons Ibrahim and Rafique suffered injuries in the incident.

Another incident at the same location near the village 3/4L level crossing, a motorcycle rickshaw collided with another rickshaw coming from the opposite direction. As a result, six persons were injured including Aasia Bibi, Boota, Ghulam Hussain, Omer Hayat, Abdullah and Muhammad Ahmad.

The dead body and all the injured were shifted to hospitals by Rescue 1122.

VISIT: Provincial minister Zeeshan Rafique visited Okara city to check the ongoing mega cleanliness operation on the second day of Eidul Azha.

MNAs Chaudhry Riazul Haq Juj, Chaudhry Nadeem Abbas Rubera, Deputy Commissioner Ahmad Usman Javid and District Police Officer Dr Assad Ejaz Malhi were also present.

The minister said that there were 184,000 workers deployed for cleanliness on this Eid to remove waste of sacrificial animals with the help of 60,000 vehicles across Punjab.

Earlier, the DC, while briefing the minister, said that 1,160 vehicles had been deployed round the clock to pick up waste and 162 special camps had been established to collect offal. He said that thousands of bags had been distributed among the citizens.

He said that so far 120,000 tonnes of waste had been collected by the Suthra Punjab workers across the district. The district administration received 801 complaints which had been resolved, he added.
