Three policemen suspended for ‘giving protocol to drug dealer’
KARACHI: Three policemen were suspended for giving “protocol” to a suspected drug dealer, who was produced before a judicial magistrate without handcuffs on Tuesday.
According to a police statement, suspect Anmol alias Pinki was arrested from her Garden apartment in a joint raid conducted by police and a civilian intelligence agency.
Later in the day, suspect Pinki was produced before a judicial magistrate — with no handcuffs — by the investigating officer (IO) in connection with two cases pertaining to possession of narcotics and an unlicensed weapon.
A video of her walking through the court’s corridor without handcuffs, wearing sunglasses and carrying a water bottle, went viral on social media and some of news channels also aired the video that shows suspect Pinki being guided by the IO, who was walking behind her.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar took strict notice of the viral video and asked authorities to take immediate action against the police personnel who provided protocol.
As a result, authorities suspended three policemen — the IO, Garden SHO and the station investigating officer.
Remanded to prison
Pinki was produced before a judicial magistrate for remand by the IO.
According to the IO, she was involved in drug trafficking and used to manufacture and sell narcotics from a flat in Garden East.
During a search of the flat, the police recovered 1.5kg of cocaine, 6.9kg of other substances used to manufacture drugs and an unlicensed 9mm pistol.
The IO requested the court to grant physical remand to trace her resources, check her criminal record and interrogate her to apprehend her accomplices.
After hearing and examining the remand papers, the court sent the suspect to prison on judicial remand and directed the IO to submit the challan within the stipulate period.
