SPSC official lodges terrorism FIR against journalist Imtiaz Chandio, two others

HYDERABAD: Imtiaz Chandio, a US-based journalist and YouTuber, and two social media activists — Fayyaz Hussain Shar and Rafiullah Qureshi — have been booked in a terrorism case for allegedly spreading “false propaganda and inciting” candidates following the announcement of the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) examination results.

SPSC Assistant Secretary Muhammad Mustafa lodged an FIR at the GOR police station under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

The complainant told the police that Chandio used social media platforms, particularly Facebook, to launch a campaign against the SPSC, its chairman, members and officers.

He said Chandio uploaded a video on his Facebook account in which he accused the SPSC administration of selling the rights of “hardworking and deserving students” for money. The video, allegedly shared by suspects Shar and Qureshi, incited unsuccessful candidates to stage protests, block the Hyderabad-Karachi highway and surround the SPSC head office until their demands were accepted.

He said later, 30 to 40 failed candidates gathered outside the SPSC office to stage a protest against SPSC chairman, members and administration.
