BAJAUR: The Bajaur Amn Jirga on Sunday called for concrete steps to end the prolonged unrest in the district and bring lasting peace to the region.
The jirga met at the Bajaur Sports Complex, where elders, political and peace activists discussed a strategy for restoring peace in the district.
Jirga head Sahibzada Haroon Rashid, PTI MPA Dr Hamidur Rehman, PML-N Bajaur chapter president Malik Gul Kareem Khan, PTI leader Sikandar Zeb Khan, PPP’s Sher Bahadur, ANP’s Shah Naseer Khan, Wajid Ali Shah, and Ismail Khan attended the jirga.
The participants said that restoring lasting peace and stability in the district was the most basic demand of residents, as it was imperative to ensure peace and development in the region.
They noted that Bajaur, which was once famous for peace, natural beauty and hospitality, had been facing unrest in recent years. They said that though efforts had been made for peace, these could not yield positive results.
Later, jirga chief Haroon Rashid and spokesperson Malik Gul Kareem Khan told reporters that the elders had decided to convene a jirga within the next week to propose measures for bringing peace to the district.
