Two Coast Guards martyred in Jiwani attack

GWADAR: Two personnel of the Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) were martyred and another was injured in an armed attack at a check post in the coastal town of Jiwani in Gwadar district on Sunday.

Officials said the incident took place in the Panowan area of Jiwani, where unidentified men riding motorcycles opened fire with automatic weapons at a Pakistan Coast Guards check post, resulting in the martyrdom of two PCG personnel who were on duty there.

“Two coast guards were martyred on the spot after receiving multiple bullet injuries, while another was injured,” Gwadar Senior Superintendent of Police Atta-ur-Rehman Tareen confirmed to Dawn, adding that the attackers escaped from the scene after the firing.

Soon after the incident, police and security personnel rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and the injured to a hospital.

Security forces have launched a combing operation in the area to trace the terrorists involved in the attack. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the assault.
